The Center for Contemporary African Studies at the University of Connecticut was established in 1991. It offers formal programs of graduate studies, encourages research on Africa, fosters student and faculty exchanges with African universities, organizes a film series, sponsors visiting scholars, and offers information on Africa-related activities and resources to the wider community. The Center draws its faculty from departments throughout the university, ranging from the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences to the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources, the School of Education, and the School of Medicine.
The University of Connecticut is actively involved in partnerships with the African National Congress in South Africa, Fort Hare University in South Africa, and the National School of Applied Economics (ENEA) in Senegal.
